
Bill
was born in Enumclaw, Washington, a small farming community south-east
of Seattle. He was attracted to the
sound of the pipes after hearing the Seaforth Highlanders of
Canada play at a local parade and he decided to learn to play. Bill
had emigrated to Canada in 1951 with his father, William, a WWI
Canadian veteran (Vimy Ridge and The Somme. Bill took his
initial instruction from P/M Donald MacLeod of the Queen’s
Own Highlanders of Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Bill
then competed in the local highland games in the novice and amateur
events. He has played in
numerous pipe bands over the years. When he attended the University
of Washington he played with the Seattle Pipe Band until he returned
to Victoria, B.C., where he played with the Canadian Scottish Regiment
under P/M Frank Knight. After a short hiatus, he returned
to the band scene in the 1970s and played with the Vancouver City
Police Pipe Band under P/M Andy Perrie and P/M Ian Sinclair. While
in this band Bill was awarded the Lesle Harbord Perpetual Trophy
in 1985, 1986 and ’87 and was named Bandsman of the Year
in 1983. In the years following he played with the Delta
Police Pipe Band under P/M Bruce Topp and the Highland Gentlemen
Shrine Pipe Band under P/M Bill Baird.

Bill
joined the RCMP E Division Pipe Band in June, 2006 and is enjoying
the members’ enthusiasm,
the band’s leadership and organization. He is also
an associate piper with the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada under
P/M Mike Bain.
Bill has been a professional
accredited real estate appraiser for the last 45 years and owns
his own company, Falcus Appraisals Inc. He is also the proud owner of an award-
winning 1967 Mustang convertible and enjoys fishing for trophy
salmon in the Queen Charlotte Islands with his wife, Mary. Bill
enjoys the fishing but Mary is the undisputed winner of their salmon
derbies!
