Stephan
White has been piping for well over 30 years, after starting at
the age of 12 on Vancouver Island with the Courtenay Legion Pipe
Band. He immersed himself totally into the world of piping, being
a band piper as well as a successful solo competitor, while at
the same time pursuing his other interests with the Military through
the Cadet movement. He was a member of the Canadian Scottish Regiment
both as a cadet, reaching the rank of RSM, and a member of the
Regimental Pipes & Drums serving under Pipe Major Steve Kelly
Sr.
When he
aged out of the cadet movement at age 17 he then joined the ranks
of 7PL. C Coy. C. Scot. R. (Militia) where he

served
as a member of a rifle company until he transferred into the Canadian
Armed Forces (Regular Component) in 1981 and headed off for service
with 3 PPCLI in Victoria. Stephan was an instructor at Vernon Army
Cadet Camp from 1981-1985 starting out as the Senior Piping Instructor
and later becoming the Officer in Charge, Pipes & Drums in 1984/1985
In 1985, he joined the
Royal Canadian Mounted Police and enjoyed his service to the Force
in Courtenay, Terrace and finally Kamloops City Detachment when
he was forced to retire due to medical issues. Upon his retirement
from the RCMP, Stephan returned to Vancouver Island and once again
began calling Courtenay his home. He immediately started playing
with the Comox Pipe Band Society and later moved over to his "first
band", the Courtenay Legion Pipe Band, becoming its Pipe Major
in 2005.
He once again began competing
in solo events within British Columbia and has since enjoyed many
trips to the winners platform. |

Stephan
has now made piping his work of choice and operates a home based
business where he plays for special occasions, such as weddings
and opening ceremonies, and also offers private instruction. Stephan
has continued to strive for perfection with his personal piping
by once again attending piping schools and has enjoyed exceptional
instruction from legendary piper and Grade 1 Pipe Major Ken Eller
at The Pacific Institute of Piping & Celtic Performing Arts.
Steve continues to take year round instruction from Ken who resides
in Ontario and operates a superb instructional web-site www.thecaptainscorner.com.
In early 2006, Stephan
joined the ranks of the RCMP "E" Division Pipes &
Drums with fellow band mates Ralph Burton & Gary Dalton, making
many trips over the puddle to attend band practices, and now looks
forward to many, many years of high caliber performances with this
truly professional band!
